THIS WEEK IN ANNAPOLIS:BILLS PASSED!

HB 1295 PASSED on Saturday afternoon! The bill was amended to allow any youth that was previously charged as an adult and had their case transferred to the juvenile system the ability to request a transfer hearing to move their current adult case to the juvenile system if they are arrested again. (The current law does not allow any youth charged as adults with previous adult charges the opportunity to request a transfer hearing.)

HB 589 PASSED on Friday! This bill requires the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention to conduct a population forecast on the number of youth charged as adults across the state.
HB 1294 was withdrawn by the sponsor. This bill required all youth charged as adults to be held in the juvenile detention centers before trail. Just Kids will bring this bill back next year!
